When discussing my work abstract expressionism gets brought up a lot, something I tried to avoid, not wanting to be categorized. In any case I eventually realized that the term abstract expressionism is fairly accurate, maybe even a lil pomo. My paintings have always been a form of catharsis for me, yet I was never really satisfied with splatters and unintentional marks praised for their movement. I always wanted to involve more. While younger I was never one to really vocalize my feelings nor to acknowledge them for that matter but with painting, I now had the opportunity to do so. Taking out emotions within the mixing of colors and finding satisfying, sometimes violent, ways of applying them to the surface was how I was finally able to transcribe the inner emotional cacophony into something visual and tangible.
